Course 5: Editing Skills and Post Production

Training people in essential post production skills…
To make them more marketable…
Able to log, digitise…
And edit!
For many people post production is the most enjoyable part of programme making.
It’s like a big jigsaw puzzle, you have all the pieces from the shoot, and you’ve selected the music, you may even have already recorded the voice over, now it’s time to put it all together and make a TV programme.
It’s also a great way to get into TV – because post production houses are always after runner, and they get promoted quick!
You could be part of the post production process, but there are certain skills you need to have before you will have any chance of getting your foot in the door.
You need to be able to log rushes – so the producer and editor know what is where when they are hunting for material.
You need to be able to digitise the filmed material, where what has been shot is entered into the computer so it can be edited in a non linear fashion [that means you can move it wherever you want, however you want!] You need to know how to play out a sequence – at full resolution and at reduced resolution for viewings.
And it also helps if you understand the basics of editing, and can do some cutting on the Avid edit system yourself.
On this course a highly experienced editor teaches you all that – and you get to work on a real programme in the process – great for your cv!
